      Abstract

This study aims to analyze the feeding habits of striped mullet (P. subviridis) in the waters of Muara Gembong-Muara Bendera, Jakarta Bay, including food composition, niche breadth, and dietary overlap as a basis for sustainable fisheries resource management. A total of 225 fish samples were collected, consisting of 112 females and 113 males. Data analysis included the index of preponderance, niche breadth, stomach content index, and dietary overlap. The results showed that striped mullet was an omnivorous species with phytoplankton as the main food item, while zooplankton, zoobenthos, and protozoa served as supplementary food The dietary composition between males and females is relatively similar, with a moderate niche overlap value indicating comparable use of food resources, though not entirely identical.. The low niche breadth values indicate a tendency toward specialization. The relative gut length value of 2.18 further supports the classification of striped mullet as an omnivorous species.
