      Abstract
      LINTANG PUTRATAMA. Karakteristik Bibit Tanaman Uwi Ungu (Dioscorea alata L.) dan Gembili (Dioscorea esculenta L.) Asal berbagai Potongan Umbi. Dibimbing oleh EDI SANTOSA. Uwi ungu (Dioscorea alata L.) dan gembili (Dioscorea esculenta L.) merupakan tanaman umbi yang berpotensi sebagai sumber pangan alternatif karena kandungan karbohidratnya tinggi dan mampu tumbuh pada berbagai kondisi lingkungan. Perbanyakan tanaman uwi umumnya menggunakan umbi, namun penggunaan umbi utuh memerlukan bahan tanam yang cukup banyak sehingga kurang efisien. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh ukuran potongan umbi yang efektif untuk perbanyakan bibit uwi ungu dan gembili. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Cikarawang, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, Fakultas Pertanian, IPB University pada bulan Oktober–Desember 2025 menggunakan Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak (RKLT) dengan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan yang diuji meliputi umbi 100 g, potongan umbi bagian ujung 50 g, potongan umbi bagian ujung 25 g, potongan umbi bagian ujung 15 g, dan potongan umbi bagian tengah 15 g. Peubah yang diamati meliputi persentase tumbuh, jumlah tunas, tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, serta bobot basah dan bobot kering tanaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ukuran potongan umbi berpengaruh nyata terhadap sebagian besar peubah pertumbuhan pada uwi ungu dan gembili. Umbi 100 g menghasilkan pertumbuhan dan akumulasi biomassa tertinggi, sedangkan potongan umbi bagian ujung 50 g menunjukkan pertumbuhan yang relatif baik dan tidak berbeda nyata pada beberapa peubah. Potongan umbi berukuran kecil (15 g) menghasilkan pertumbuhan yang lebih rendah. Perlakuan ukuran potongan umbi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah tunas. Pemotongan umbi dapat menjadi cara perbanyakan cepat pada uwi ungu dan gembili.
       
      LINTANG PUTRATAMA. Characteristics of Purple Yam (Dioscorea alata L.) and Lesser Yam (Dioscorea esculenta L.) Plant Seeds from Various Tuber Pieces. Supervised by EDI SANTOSA. Purple yam (Dioscorea alata L.) and lesser yam (Dioscorea esculenta L.) are tuber crops that have potential as alternative food sources due to their high carbohydrate content and adaptability to various environmental conditions. Yam propagation is generally carried out using tubers; however, the use of whole tubers requires a large amount of planting material and is therefore less efficient. This research aimed to determine the effective tuber cutting size for the propagation of purple yam and lesser yam. The experiment was conducted at the Cikarawang Experimental Field, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University, from October to December 2025. The study used a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments consisted of whole tubers (100 g), apical tuber cuttings (50 g), apical tuber cuttings (25 g), apical tuber cuttings (15 g), and middle tuber cuttings (15 g). The observed variables included budding percentage, number of shoots, plant height, number of leaves, and fresh and dry weights of the plant. The results showed that tuber cutting size significantly affected most growth variables irrespective yam species. Tubers of 100 g produced the highest growth and biomass accumulation, while apical tuber cuttings of 50 g showed relatively good growth and were not significantly different in several parameters. Smaller tuber cuttings (15 g) resulted in the lowest growth. Tuber cutting size irrespective size and origin did not significantly affect the number of shoots. Tuber cutting can be a method of rapid propagation for purple yam and lesser yam.
