dc.description.abstractHipokampus merupakan wilayah otak yang memiliki peran penting dalam proses neurogenesis dan pembentukan memori. Proses neurogenesis dapat dipengaruhi senyawa aktif dari tumbuhan. Senggani (Melastoma malabathricum) merupakan tumbuhan yang berpotensi meningkatkan neurogenesis. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efek pemberian ekstrak daun senggani terhadap proliferasi dan apoptosis sel di hipokampus serta pembelajaran spasial pada mencit. Penelitian ini menggunakan sembilan ekor mencit yang dibagi dalam tiga kelompok, yaitu Kelompok K diberikan air, Kelompok P diberikan ekstrak daun senggani (500 mg/kg BB), dan Kelompok K+ diberikan perlakuan voluntary running. Perlakuan diberikan selama 30 hari. Analisis proliferasi dan apoptosis sel dilakukan dengan pengamatan preparat histologi otak mencit dan analisis pembelajaran spasial dilakukan dengan uji alternasi menggunakan Y-maze. Mencit P dan K+ menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada densitas sel putative neural progenitor cell, granular, dan kemampuan pembelajaran spasial, serta penurunan densitas sel apoptotik, sehingga menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun senggani memiliki kemampuan neuroprotektif terhadap sel di hipokampus.
dc.description.abstractThe hippocampus is a region of the brain that plays an important role in neurogenesis and memory formation. The neurogenesis process can be influenced by active compounds from plants. Senggani (Melastoma malabathricum) is a plant that has the potential to increase neurogenesis. This study aims to analyze the effects of senggani leaf extract administration on cell proliferation and apoptosis in the hippocampus as well as spatial learning in mice. This study used nine mice divided into three groups, namely Group K given water, Group P given senggani leaf extract (500 mg/kg BW), and Group K+ given voluntary running treatment. The treatment was given for 30 days. Cell proliferation and apoptosis analysis was performed by observing mouse brain histology preparations, and spatial learning analysis was performed using an alternation test with a Y-maze. Mice in groups P and K+ showed a significant increase in the density of putative neural progenitor cells and granular cells, as well as spatial learning ability, and a decrease in the density of apoptotic cells, indicating that senggani leaf extract has neuroprotective properties for cells in the hippocampus
