      Pengembangan Metode Pengujian Cepat Mutu Benih Jagung (Zea mays L.) Secara Tidak Langsung dengan Mengukur Laju Respirasi Menggunakan Sensor CO2

      Abstract
      Jagung (Zea mays L.) merupakan komoditas serealia yang perlu ditingkatkan produktivitasnya melalui penggunaan benih bermutu fisiologis tinggi. Mutu fisiologis benih dapat diketahui melalui pengujian, salah satunya dengan metode tidak langsung melalui uji laju respirasi menggunakan sensor Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) CO2. Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan kadar air (KA) standar yang dapat digunakan dalam pengujian laju respirasi dan menguji kemampuan sensor NDIR CO2 dalam mendeteksi laju respirasi pada benih jagung dengan tingkat mutu fisiologis berbeda. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus 2024 – Februari 2025, di Laboratorium Penyimpanan dan Pengujian Mutu Benih, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, serta Laboratorium Sistem Sensor, Departemen Fisika, IPB University. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan kelompok lengkap teracak (RKLT) faktor tunggal, dengan faktor percobaan 1 berupa kadar air benih dan percobaan 2 berupa pengusangan benih untuk mendapatkan tingkat mutu fisiologis benih. Analisis regresi juga dilakukan untuk melihat keeratan hubungan antara laju respirasi dengan parameter mutu fisiologis benih. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan alat sensor NDIR CO2 dapat mengukur laju respirasi benih yang dilembapkan hingga KA 14%, serta menunjukkan adanya kecenderungan hubungan positif antara laju respirasi dan parameter mutu fisiologis, terutama Potensi Tumbuh Maksimum (PTM) (r= 0,98; R2= 0,96). Namun, pengukuran laju respirasi tidak dapat membedakan benih dengan tingkat mutu fisiologis yang berbeda.
       
      Maize (Zea mays L.) is a cereal crops whose productivity can be improved through the use of seeds with high physiological quality. Seed quality can be determined through an indirect approach, such as measuring respiration rate using an NDIR CO2 sensor. This study aimed to determine the standard seed moisture content (MC) for respiration rate testing and to evaluate the NDIR CO2 sensor’s ability to distinguish seed physiological quality with different levels of physiological quality. This research was conducted in August 2024 – February 2025, at Seed Storage and Quality Testing Laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, and Sensor Systems Laboratory, Department of Physics, IPB University. A single-factor randomized complete block design (RCBD) was used, with MC as the factor in experiment 1 and seed aging duration in experiment 2. Regression analysis was performed to analyze the correlation between respiration rate and physiological quality parameters. Results showed that CO2 sensor could measure the respiration rate in seed moistened to 14% MC, with indicates a positive correlations between respiration rate and physiological quality parameters, particularly Germination Potential (r= 0,98; R2= 0,96). However, the respiration rate measurement could not distinguish seed lots with different levels of physiological quality.
