Productivity of pepper in Bangka Belitung Province, especially in South Bangka District is low. Increasing productivity requires an applied technology generated by research institutions and adapted to local conditions and suitable to existing natural resources. The dissemination of technology to farmers implemented by researchers and extensionists intensively and simultaneously. One of the most important problems encountered is the improper utilization of technology by farmers, due to differ perception on the technology between farmers and researchers. It is necessary, therefore, to envolve farmers in the dissemination of tchnology and collect their feedback in improving adoption of technology for improving productivity and quality of product. This study aims to: (1) identify the characteristics of pepper farmers, (2) analyze the perception of farmers to dissemination farming technology of pepper, (3) analyze the perception of farmers to characterize technological innovation farming of pepper, and (4) analyze the factors that influence the rate of adoption of farming technology pepper.
The research design was survey conducted in Serdang Village, Nyelanding Village and Delas Village South Bangka District in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province, Data collected in March until May 2015. The number of population was 890 people and the number of samples was 90 people. Quantitative data analysis is using descriptive statistic analysis and inferential analysis. Descriptive statistic analysis consisted of frequency distribution, whereas the inferential statistical analysis using multiple regression analysis with SPSS software.
Conclusions of research are: (1) pepper farmers are generally age 35-52 years adult with 4-5 people in a family and low education level, the land size narrow (0,5-3 Ha), not cosmopolite and having a low income, (2) age and length of farming experience of farmers significantly affect the level of technology adoption of pepper farming, (3) perception of farmers towards the dissemination of technology through exhibits significantly affect the level of technology adoption of pepper farming, and (4) perception of farmers towards the characteristics of technological innovation of pepper farming significantly affect the level of technology adoption of pepperfarming
