The Boesemani rainbowfish Melanotaenia boesemani possesses high economic value and unique ornamental appeal. However, the main constraint in its aquaculture lies in the hatchery and larval rearing stages, which are highly dependent on imported live feed such as artemia. Artemia is commonly used by fish farmers for rainbowfish larviculture, its relatively high cost necessitates the exploration of more affordable alternative feeds. Microworms have emerged as a promising substitute. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of microworms as a replacement for artemia. The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications, consisting of treatment A (100% Artemia), MA13 (25% microworm and 75% Artemia), MA22 (50% microworm and 50% artemia), MA31 (75% microworm and 25% Artemia), and M (100% microworm). The results indicated that microworm administration had no significant effect on daily length growth rate (LPPH), absolute weight growth rate (LPPM), survival rate (SR), or deformity (p>0,05). Nonetheless, from an economic standpoint, microworms were superior due to their lower cost and higher profitability. Therefore, microworms are recommended as a cost-effective alternative live feed for the larval rearing of Boesemani rainbowfish.
