| dc.description.abstract | Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) is one of the cereal crops with great potential to be developed as a source of ethanol. Sorghum can grow in marginal lands, is tolerant to drought, and is relatively resistant to pests and diseases. This study aimed to obtain information on biomass and juice variability resulting from the crossing of the Bioguma 1 and Samurai 2 varieties. The research was conducted at the IP2TP Muara Experimental Field, Bogor Barat District, Bogor City, West Java, from May to September 2024. The study employed the Single Seed Descent (SSD) method, meaning each genotype was planted with one individual per planting hole. Bioguma 1 and Samurai 2 were used as parental controls. A total of 312 genotypes were evaluated. The results showed that no population mean exceeded those of both parents. Most traits in the F3 population were influenced by a small number of genes, except for fresh leaf weight, seed weight per panicle, and thousand-seed weight. No traits exhibited low broad-sense heritability in the F3 population. The genetic coefficient of variation among F3 populations varied from broad, moderate, to narrow categories. Correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between biomass and juice volume, but a negative correlation with brix value. Selection based on fresh leaf weight successfully improved the desired traits, although a decrease in one important trait was observed. | |
