      Abstract

Vanilla is a plantation crop from the Orchidaceae family that has high economic value. Vanilla production from 2016 to 2022 experienced fluctuations. In 2016, vanilla production was recorded at 1797 tons, decreased to 1327 tons in 2018, and increased again in 2022 to 1495 tons. In 2022, vanilla productivity reached 360 tons with a cultivation area of 9,586 hectares. The main challenges in vanilla cultivation in Indonesia are low productivity and quality. One way to address these issues is through fertilization. Fertilization is the process of adding nutrients to the soil to improve or enhance soil fertility. This study aims to obtain information on the effects of liquid organic fertilizer and harvest age on the growth and yield of vanilla plants. Sample selection is based on the criteria, healthy plants that were three years old and had been pollinated. The fertilizer used was liquid organic fertilizer with doses of control, 25 mL 2 L-1 plant-1 , 50 mL 2 L-1 plant-1 , and 75 mL 2 L-1 plant-1 . The observed variables included stem diameter, number of flowers per cluster, number of flowers that developed into fruit, number of pods per cluster per plant, pod weight, pod length, pod diameter before and after drying, dry weight, and moisture content. The results showed that harvest age and fertilization significantly affected the growth and yield of vanilla. Vanilla pods harvested at 7 months after pollination had a moisture content of 37,6%, meeting quality standard 1. Meanwhile, the application of liquid organic fertilizer influenced plant growth and yield. A fertilizer dose of 50 mL improved stem thickening, as well as the weight, length, and diameter of fresh vanilla pods. The best combination for increasing vanilla yield was applying 50 mL of liquid organic fertilizer and harvesting at seven months.
