| dc.description.abstract | Rose cactus (Pereskia spp.) is a native American plant from the Cactaceae family with unique characteristics. Studies on the leaf anatomy of cactus roses in Indonesia are still very limited. This research aims to analyze the leaf anatomy of three types of rose cacti (Pereskia spp.). The leaf samples used consisted of Pereskia aculeata, Pereskia grandifolia, and Pereskia sacharosa. Leaf sections were prepared using whole mount (paradermal) and paraffin (transverse) section methods. Observed parameters included the shape and thickness of the epidermis, type, size, density, and index of stomata, cuticle thickness, mesophyll thickness, leaf thickness, and vascular bundle arrangement. Results showed that epidermal cells are polygonal with wavy anticlinal walls and possess stomata. Parasitic stomata types are dominant in all three species, while hemiparasitic types were only found in P. aculeata. The largest stomata size was found in P. sacharosa. The highest stomatal density and index were found in P. aculeata. The epidermal and cuticle layers were thicker on the adaxial side, except in P. sacharosa. The largest mesophyll thickness was found in P. grandifolia. All three species had collaterally arranged vascular bundles. This study highlights the anatomical diversity among three species of rose cactus (Pereskia spp.). | |
