Characters in the Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) F3 Population
Resulting from the Soraya 3 x Kawali Crossbreeding Supervised by DESTA
WIRNAS.
Sorghum is one of the cereal crops that produces carbohydrates and can be
used as a substitute for staple food other than rice. The development of sorghum
varieties is very important to increase productivity and yield. This study aims to
compare the selection results based on the diversity of agronomic characters in the
F3 sorghum population and its two parent varieties, Soraya 3 x Kawali. The
research was conducted in West Bogor. The materials used were F3 sorghum
seeds resulting from the Soraya 3 x Kawali crossbreeding and seeds of the two
parent varieties. Based on the analysis of variance and heritability conducted on
several tested characters, each population showed diverse results. Specifically, the
analysis of the genetic coefficient of variation for each character showed results
ranging from medium to high, indicating the potential for improvement through
selection. Based on the selection differential values, the panicle diameter and
panicle weight were 0.32 and 1.36, respectively.
