dc.description.abstractUkuran benih berkaitan dengan mutu fisiologis yang dihasilkan. Penelitian bertujuan untuk optimalisasi ukuran benih jagung manis varietas Arinta IPB dan Verona IPB untuk meningkatkan mutu fisiologis. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada November 2023 hingga April 2024 di Seed Center KP Leuwikopo IPB untuk proses pemilahan benih, dan di Laboratorium Penyimpanan dan Pengujian Mutu Benih, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura IPB untuk pengujian mutu benih. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap faktor tunggal dengan empat ulangan. Ukuran benih dibagi menjadi empat taraf ukuran, dengan varietas Arinta IPB berdiameter (besar: >8mm; sedang: 6,6-7,9 mm; dan kecil: <6,5 mm) serta varietas Verona IPB berdiameter (besar: >9 mm; sedang: 7,6-8,9 mm; dan kecil: <7,5 mm), dan ukuran campur (semua ukuran). Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa ukuran benih jagung manis berpengaruh terhadap mutu fisiologis yang dihasilkan. Benih berukuran besar menghasilkan mutu fisiologis tertinggi dibanding dengan taraf ukuran lain. Viabilitas awal benih kedua varietas masih sangat tinggi yaitu lebih dari 80,0%. Jagung manis varietas Verona IPB memiliki bobot 1000 butir lebih tinggi dibandingkan Arinta IPB. Benih berukuran besar memiliki bobot 1000 butir lebih tinggi dibandingkan bobot 1000 butir awal (benih campuran), sementara benih berukuran sedang dan kecil memiliki bobot yang lebih rendah. Benih jagung varietas Arinta IPB dan Verona IPB memiliki variasi ukuran yang sangat tinggi. Proporsi tertinggi benih kedua varietas dimiliki oleh benih berukuran sedang yakni varietas Arinta IPB sebesar 70,3% dan Verona IPB 57,1%. Viabilitas dan vigor lot benih jagung manis kedua varietas terbukti dapat ditingkatkan dengan mengeliminasi benih berukuran kecil. Implementasi pemilahan benih untuk meningkatkan viabilitas dan vigor benih jagung manis varietas Verona IPB perlu menjadi perhatian karena proporsi benih berukuran kecil cukup tinggi sebesar 27,0%.
dc.description.abstractThe size of seeds is related to the physiological quality produced. This research aims to optimize the seed size of the sweet corn varieties Arinta IPB and Verona IPB to improve physiological quality. The research was carried out from November 2023 to April 2024 at the Seed Center of KP Leuwikopo IPB for seed sorting processes and at the Seed Storage and Quality Testing Laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture IPB for seed quality testing. The research used a randomized complete design (RCD) with a single factor and four replications. The seed sizes are divided into four categories, with the Arinta IPB variety having diameters: (large: >8mm; medium: 6,6-7,9 mm; and small: <6,5 mm) and the Verona IPB variety has diameters as follows: (large: >9 mm; medium: 7,6-8,9 mm; and small: <7,5 mm), and mixed sizes (all sizes). The experimental results showed that the size of sweet corn seeds influences the physiological quality produced. Large seeds produce the highest physiological quality compared to other size level. The initial viability of seeds for both varieties was still very high, over 80,0%. The sweet corn variety Verona IPB had a higher 1000-seed weight compared to Arinta IPB. Large seeds had a higher 1000-seed weight compared to the initial 1000-seed weight (mixed seeds), while medium and small seeds had lower weights. The Arinta IPB and Verona IPB varieties had very high variation in size. The highest proportion of seeds for both varieties is found in medium sized seeds, with Arinta IPB at 70,3% and Verona IPB at 57,1%. The viability and vigor of sweet corn seed lots for both varieties can be improved by eliminating small sized seeds. Implementing seed sorting to enhance the viability and vigor of sweet corn seeds of the Verona IPB variety needs attention since the proportion of small-sized seeds is relatively high at 27,0%.
