      Abstract

Burns are traumas caused by fire, hot water, chemicals, electricity and radiation. Burns consist of degrees I (superficial), IIa (partial thickness), IIb (deep partial thickness), III (full thickness), and IV (charred). This study aims to inform the process of occurrence and healing of third degree burns from a macro and microscopic perspective (anatomical pathology and histopathology). This study used four rats, three rats as positive controls, and one rat as negative control. The parameters observed the area of the burn wound and the number of inflammatory cells for 14 days. The data results processed using Fiji ImageJ Windows 64 software, Microsoft Excel, SPSS with One-Way ANOVA method, and the Duncan test. The results of research on third degree burns showed damage to the entire epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis, no bullae were found, the skin was white and pale, and the regeneration took more than 14 days. The process of wound regeneration goes conjointly with changes in the area of the wound which becomes smaller and the number of inflammatory cells decreases.
