      Abstract

Environmental pressure due to anthropogenic activities were suspected of increasing the dissolved heavy metals in the waters of Karangantu Beach, Banten Bay. This research aims to analyze the distribution of dissolved heavy metals mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), copper (Cu), and cadmium (Cd) in the waters of Karangantu Beach, Banten Bay. The method used in this study consists of in situ and ex situ analysis of water quality, such as dissolved heavy metal concentrations, temperature, brightness, salinity, pH, and DO, turbidity, and TSS. The data analysis consisted of dissolved heavy metal distribution and pollution status determination based on the Pollution Index (PI). The distribution pattern of dissolved heavy metals is greatly influenced by tidal phenomena. The concentration of dissolved heavy metals increased and headed to the sea according to the height of the tidal wave in each month of observation. The concentration of dissolved Hg in the marine waters of Karangantu Beach has exceeded the quality standards of seawater for biota. The results of the Pollution Index calculation showed that Karangantu Beach waters are classified as lightly polluted.
