Leopard coralgrouper (Plectropomus leopardus) is one of the consumption fish resources caught in the Makassar Strait waters. This study aims to determine the surplus production model that best fits the characteristics of leopard coralgrouper (P. leopardus) and to analyze the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) of leopard coralgrouper (P. leopardus) in the Makassar Strait Waters, South Sulawesi. Data processing was obtained from secondary fisheries data from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Affairs, South Sulawesi from 2012-2021. There are five surplus production models used, namely the Schaefer, Fox, Walter Hilborn, Schnute and Clarke Yoshimoto Pooley (CYP) models. Through the comparison of actual and predicted catches of each model and the value of the coefficient of determination (R2), it was found that the Walter Hilborn model is the model that best fits the characteristics of leopard coralgrouper (P. leopardus) in the Makassar Strait waters. The coefficient of determination (R2) of the Walter Hilborn model is 69,21% with a maximum sustainable catch of 59.927,08 tons/year and an optimum fishing effort of 212.563,47 trips/year. Leopard coralgrouper stock status based on actual data from 2012 to 2021 shows underfishing results.id
