Rice as a basic commodity can be distinguished between aromatic and nonaromatic. Its different based on gene deletion at chromosom 8. Conventional methods like assessment was method which frequently uses to detect aromatic characteristic of rice. Molecular gene based marker was new method to identify aromatic rice accurately and shorthen analyzing time. The purpose of this research is to distinguish the type of aromatic and nonaromatic variety using aromatic gene-based marker. DNA as rice genetic material was isolated from leaves using CTAB method which broke the cell wall and release the components thus precipitated the DNA. DNA amplification conducted by PCR machine using specific aromatic primer and the result verified by 1.5 % gel agarose electrophoresis. The result of Bradbury primer obtained size of band about 580 bp and 355 bp for nonaromatic, also 580 bp and 257 bp for aromatic. Mentik Wangi and Gunung Perak variety could distinguish to band pattern. Furthermore, RM223 primer can be differentiate both of patterns of aromatic and nonaromatic rice by the band size about 120 bp to 160 bp.id
