The development of the agricultural sector is directed at increasing the
production and productivity of agricultural commodities to increase the welfare of
the farming community. However, in its implementation, there are various
obstacles, including climate change. The impact of climate change results in lo of
up to 40 percent in the agricultural sector. Adaptation of climate-smart behavior
needs to be increased to reduce the risk of losses in the agricultural sector due to
climate change, one of which is by using techno which is Screenhouse as a plant
house at an affordable price, can overcome the problem of climate change in
Indonesia.
The research was conducted on horticultural farmers who already know
screenhouse agricultural technology, both those who have used it and those who
have not used it, with as many as 70 respondents. The number of samples is
determined through the minimum number of samples used in the SEM-PLS analysis,
namely ten times the number of indicators in the latent variables using nonprobability
sampling techniques and purposive sampling. The research was
conducted for one month. Data was collected through interview techniques using a
structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the SEM-PLS analysis
technique through the SmartPLS application.
The results showed that the behavior of farmers in using screenhouses was
low because most of them had not used screenhouses. Farmers who have used
screenhouses in the simple version have yet to be equipped with complete
technology (drip irrigation, temperature control, sprinklers, blowers).
Factors influencing farmer behavior in imitating the model using a
screenhouse are personal factors at 55,8 percent, environmental factors at 26,8
percent, and environmental factors through personal mediation factors at 33,8
percent. The higher of the farmer's knowledge, understanding, yield expectations,
and interest in the screenhouse, the more farmers' behavior using the screenhouse
will increase. Increasing farmers' perceptions of the characteristics of
models/figures to emulate and support from social groups will improve farmer
behavior in using screenhouses.
This is in accordance with Albert Bandura's theory, Social Cognitive Theory
which shows a relationship between personal factors, environmental factors, and
individual behavior. The environment has a role in the learning process by
individuals by observing and imitating the behavior of others.
Suggestions for the government, especially those dealing with agricultural
extension activities, are the socialization of screenhouse technology, especially for
farmers unfamiliar with it. This will provide knowledge to farmers about the
benefits, and costs of making and how to use and maintaining screenhouses. In
addition, it needs to be supported by a demonstration plot on the use of
screenhouses on farmer's land.
