      Abstract

Foxtail millet (Setaria italica (L.) Beauv) is one of the important plants from China. Foxtail millet plants are one of the food crops that have the potential to be an alternative carbohydrate source. Foxtail millet can grow in arid and semi-arid regions, because of its short life cycle and salinity tolerance, and drought tolerance. The nutrient content of foxtail millet the genotypes is also suspected to vary. Research has been carried out at Technopark, Basic Laboratory of Technical Instruments and Packaging Laboratories, Fateta, IPB in May - September 2018. Foxtail millet genotypes which are the subject of research are ICERI 1 - ICERI 10, Botok 2, Botok 4, Botok 8, Botok 10, Botok 12, Botok 15, Botok 19, and PADANG, and with comparative ingredients for rice and sorghum. Physical analysis carried out includes color analysis, bulk density or the effectiveness of capping and yield. Analysis of the chemical properties carried out include water content analysis, ash content analysis and fat content analysis. 18 foxtail millet genotypes tested obtained various physical and chemical properties. Overall the quality of foxtail millet is acceptable, compared to rice and sorghum.
