The loads of several water quality parameters that enter to Banten Bay
through the river and its distribution is not well yet known. This study aims to
calculate the load parameters of water quality from rivers, explain the
hydrodynamic characteristics of the waters and predict the distribution dynamics
of BOD, NO3, NH4, PO4 in Banten Bay. The combined hydrodynamic-water quality
model Delwaq-Delft3D was used to carry out the investigation. The hydrodynamic
model has been verified using measurement data with the result in good agreement.
The results showed that the daily discharge of the seven rivers flowing into Banten
Bay ranged from 0.7 to 130.8 m3
/s with the largest contributor being the Banten
river (35.9%). Total loads BOD, NO3, NH4, and PO4 from seven river were 2255.09
kg/day, 224 kg/day, 86 kg/day 325.34 kg/day, and 1.23 kg/day respectively.
The direction of the current at flood tide in spring tide moves westward with
a maximum speed of 0.5 m/s, while in neap tide conditions it moves eastward at the
same speed. During the lowest tide (maximum ebb), both the spring and the neap
tide move eastward at speeds reaching 1 m/s and 0.4 m/s, respectively. In the West
Monsoon, the residual current is more dominated by the residual current generated
by the wind with the direction move to the east and the maximum speed reaches 0.2
m/s, while during the East Monsoon it is more dominated by residual currents
generated by tides. The residual current based on the model scenario 1 and 3 found
clockwise eddies near the western cape of the Banten Bay.
The distribution direction of several parameters DO, BOD, NH4, NO3, PO4
which enter through the river is only visible during January (the highest discharge),
which is moving eastward following the residual flow of the West Monsoon. In
August, because the discharge from the river is very low, the distribution of high
concentrations (plume) of some of these parameters is not visible. Except for DO,
the concentration of other parameters around the coast or close to the river estuary
is strongly influenced by river flow discharge, namely when the discharge is at its
highest peak (January) the concentration of some of these parameters is also high,
conversely when the discharge is low. The total discharge of the seven rivers
flowing into Banten Bay has no significant effect on fluctuations in DO, BOD, NH4,
NO3, PO4 in the middle of the bay. Important processes that affect several
parameters in the middle of the bay are natural physical and chemical processes
