      Abstract
      Ikan mola (sunfish) adalah anggota famili Molidae dan terdistribusi secara luas di perairan beriklim sedang dan tropis. Ikan mola merupakan salah satu maskot wisata bahari dan dapat ditemui secara musiman di perairan Nusa Penida. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menduga karakteristik habitat dan kemunculan ikan mola serta menelaah keterlibatan masyarakat pesisir Nusa Penida dalam pengelolaan wisata ikan mola. Data yang dikumpulkan merupakan data primer berupa pengamatan kemunculan ikan pada lokasi terpilih dan wawancara dengan masyarakat pesisir secara purposive sampling untuk menggali informasi tentang persepsi dan peranan masyarakat lokal. Kemunculan ikan mola di perairan Nusa Penida ditemui pada bulan Juli hingga Desember. Parameter lingkungan yang memengaruhi kemunculan ikan mola, yaitu perairan lebih dalam dimana terdapat kelimpahan ikan karang pembersih disertai suhu perairan yang dingin dan kondisi arus tenang. Kegiatan wisata bahari dan perikanan tangkap menjadi ancaman terhadap kemunculan ikan mola. Masyarakat pesisir Nusa Penida masih banyak belum mengetahui kebijakan terkait wisata ikan mola. Pengelolaan wisata ikan mola masih belum optimal, sehingga perlu diterapkan regulasi yang tegas dan meningkatkan pastisipasi masyarakat lokal agar wisata berbasis mola berkelanjutan.
       
      The ocean sunfish (Mola spp.) belongs to family Molidae which widely distributed in sub-temperate and tropical waters. This world’s largest and heaviest fish is marine tourism’s icon which visible seasonally in Nusa Penida waters. The present study aims to predict the habitat characteristics linked to its occurrence as well as to examine local community participation in sunfish-based tourism management. Data were derived from primary and secondary data. Interviews with local communities were conducted purposively. The ocean sunfish in Nusa Penida waters are visible from Juli – Desember throughout the year. On the sunfish appearance environmental conditions is at deeper waters with lower temperatures and calm water currents. Marine tourism and capture fisheries threat on the seasonal appearance of ocean sunfish. Lack in a variety of aspects including less socialization, poor knowledge, weakness in law enforcement, and low participation of local communities are the current obstacles towards the sustainability of ocean sunfish-based tourisms in Nusa Penida.
