Allergy cases were frequently reported at kecamatan Pasar Minggu South Jakarta. Pollen is one of the respiratory-system allergen substance which has never been explored in Indonesia. This research was conducted to know the allergenicity of airborne pollen at Pasar Minggu South Jakarta. The protein of airborne pollen at that area was identified and characterized. The detection of allergenicity was made to rat (Wistar strain) by in vivo experiment. There were four kind of airborne pollen found in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, which were: maize, dwarf coconut, pine, and oil palm pollen. Their protein concentration were, respectively, 65; 88; 14; and 66 mg/g of pollen. SDS-PAGE results showed that maize, dwarf coconut, pine, and oil palm pollen had several proteins with molecular weight ranging from 17 – 70 kDa; 17 – 68 kDa; 16 - 68 kDa; and 15 – 68 kDa, respectively. Skin inflamation was detected after injection of those protein extract to mouse’s subcutaneous. Respiratory challenge caused an increase in relative weight of respiratory tract. This challenge though, cause a decrease in body weight and an increase in size for mucose membrane cells, a secretion of mucose, and an eruption of inflammation cells. All pollen were allergenic to wistar rat, thus can be utilized as an extract allergen for allergy detection and immunotherapy substances for human in Indonesia.id
