Abstract: Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a food additive that now comes in various forms and is easily found in many stores. This study aims to identify consumer preferences regarding MSG product packaging and to examine the factors that influence those preferences. The population in Bogor Regency who met the inclusion criteria totals 3.9 million people and the number of respondents involved was 100 (e = 0.10), selected through a survey method using convenience sampling with defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The statistical analysis methods used were the Friedman test and the Chi-square test, conducted using SPSS version 27. The findings revealed that 50% of Bogor residents purchase MSG at supermarkets. The first aspect they pay attention to when buying MSG is whether the packaging is damaged. The study also found significant differences in consumer preferences for packaging material (p = 0.008) and packaging design (p = 0.018). Overall, consumers preferred laminated paper over plastic as the packaging material and paid more attention to design than to product quality. As for packaging form, size, and label information, consumers perceived them similarly, and no significant relationship was found between these attributes and consumer preferences. Packaging design emerged as the most influential factor in shaping consumer preferences.
