| dc.description.abstract | As an upstream and buffer areas, the ecological existence of forest and other protected areas have an important role in Deli Serdang district. Nowadays, forest and other protected areas has been degraded due to the increasing population and development activities. Without any effort to reduce the degradation, the problem will even more serious and give a worse impact in the future. A research that aims to : (1) analyze forest area and other protected area in accordance to biophysical condition that should be maintained; (2) formulate guidelines of land allocation of district according to biophysical condition; (3) analyze the possibility of improper use of protected area function in Deli Serdang district and (4) find out the indication of population pressure to protected area was carried out at Deli Serdang district. Data processing and analysis were done with GIS system through overlay operation of different themes of data. The result of analysis showed that the forest area that should be maintained were 50.009 ha (20,02 %). Identification of protected area based on Presidential Decree No. 32 year 1990 showed that 96,764 ha (38.74%) were the protected area, while the remaining 153,016 ha or 61.26 % were the cultivation area. In total, there were 34.95% of the protected areas which were used for production or cultivation. According to the analysis result, there were 312 villages which have population pressure more than 1 and 66.59% of those villages are in the protected area. | id |
