| dc.description.abstract | This study aimed to determine mothers’ decision-making pattern in exclusive breastfeeding and its related factors. This study was a part of a joint research conducted by Departement of Community Nutrition and Family Resources (GMSK) and WHO. Data Collection was conducted on September to December 2001. Samples were grouped into mothers giving exclusive breastfeeding (namely group 1) and those mothers who were not giving exclusive breastfeeding (name group 2). From a total of 251 mothers of group 1 and 769 mothers of group 2, 30 samples for each group were selected at random. The results show that for both group of mothers were as decision makers (70%), while only a few fathers were as decision makers (15%). There were no difference in term of socio economic characteristics such as education, status of employment, family income, and access to mass media, and knowledge toward breastfeeding in group 1 and 2. The difference was only found in term of mothers’ attitude toward breastfeeding (p=0.07). There were also significant relationships between: attitude and knowledge of breastfeeding; level of mothers’ educational attainment and knowledge of breast feeding level of mothers’ educational attainment and attitude toward breast feeding. The level of mothers’ educational attainment had significant and positive influence to probability of giving exclusive breastfeeding (β=0.233) which mean that additional 1 year of mothers’ education will increase 0.233 probability to give exclusive breast feeding. Inversely access to mass media had significant and negative influence to probability of giving exclusive breast feeding (β=0.333) which meant that additional 1 unit of access to mass media will decrease 0.333 probability of giving exclusive breast feeding. | |
