The objectives of the study were to analyze the relationship between household food security and family well-being. The 1996 SUSENAS DATA of Consumption and Core Modules were used to analyze the household food security level in 27 provinces. The family well-being data was from the 1997 BKKBN census of family well-being in 27 provinces. The results showed that West Sumatra had the lowest percentages of families who were less food secured, whereas Maluku had the largest percentages of families who were less food secured. Less food secured families were characterized by less energy and protein consumption which did not meet the recommended dietary allowances. The results also showed that East Timor, East Nusa Tenggara and Irian Jaya were the provinces that had high percentages of poor families. Correlation analysis showed that household food security and family well-being was positively correlated. The higher the percentages of less food secured families, the higher the percentages of poor families.
