      Abstract
The existence of Jelutung is still in question, especially in Jambi, where two species, swamp and land jelutungs are found. The aim of this study was to determine the structure, composition, distribution and potential of both jelutung species (Dyera spp.) in their natural habitat in Jambi. The study was done using the combination of line transects and square plots in 1 ha plot size located in protected peatland forests in Sungai Beras village, secondary forest in Lagan Ulu village and rubber forest plantation in Catur Rahayu village. Total of 2.219 trees, measured, there were 97 species from 68 genera and 38 families were identified in which the most dominant species were rubber, dryland jelutung, pulai, swamp jelutung and lanang tree. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) values of trees at anystage of growth were about 0-2.76, which were classified as low to mid level of diversity. Understorey plants had H’ value of about 0.49-2.76, which were classified as low to mid level of diversity. The distribution patterns of both jelutung species were in clustered and evenly. The highest potential of jelutung volume was found in Lagan Ulu with average value of 60.45 m³ha-1, followed by Catur Rahayu forests with average volume of 33.53 m³ha-1 and Sungai Beras with 27.35 m³ha-1. Conservation and future utilization of jelutung need to consider their ecological data.
