Tangerang City known as industrial area and residential area. The city has consumed a lot of energy, that lead to the increase of air pollution especially CO2 in atmosphere. One way to reduce level of air pollution is development of green open space, urban forest, and protected area within spatial planning of Tangerang City. The necessary of urban forest in the Tangerang City could be determined by CO2 absorption approach based on IPCC (Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change) method. The research aimed at estimating the optimal size of urban forest based on CO2 emission came from domestic, agriculture and industrial emission. Further, spatial suitability also were examined. Result showed that CO2 emissions amounted to 3188.9 Gg CO2/years in 2014. Meanwhile, the result of land cover classification revealed that the area of trees vegetation amounted to 1870.26 hectares and grass amounted to 1977.81 hectares. Both of trees vegetation and grass could only absorb 115.48 Gg CO2/years (3.62% of total emissions). The protected area established in land use plannning only 1421.06 Ha and therefore need a lot of additional urban forest, in fact there was no any urban forest established by the government.
