The aimofthispaperistonumericallystudytheeffectsofbreakwatersteepnessonthehydrodynamics of standingwaveandscouringprocessinfrontofimpermeablebreakwaters.Atwo-dimensional hydrodynamicsmodelbasedontheReynoldsAveragedNavier–Stokes(RANS)equationsandtheVolume of Fluid(VOF)methodwasdevelopedandthencombinedwithanempiricalsedimenttransportmodel. Comparisons withananalyticalsolutionandexperimentaldatashowedthepresentmodelisvery accurateinpredictingthenearbottomvelocityandcapableofsimulatingthescour/depositionpatterns consistent withexperimentaldata.Itwasfoundthattheadditionaltermsofbottomshearstressinthe momentum equationsarenecessarytoproduceaphysicalscouringpattern.Differentbreakwater steepnesses producedifferentcharacteristicsofstandingwave, thesteadystreamingsystem, and scouring patterninfrontofthebreakwaters, whichalsoaffectsthecorrelationsbetweenthem. An additional analysisoftheturbulence field parametersandthesedimenttransportratewasalso performed. Alltheseimportantinformationwillbepresentedindetailsinthispaperandcanbe worthwhile fordesigningthebreakwaterincoastalareas.
