dc.description.abstract | MBOF (Mega Bird and Orchid Farm) and ASTI (Animal Sanctuary Trust Indonesia) are two of the facilities that support eks-situ conservation programs in Indonesia. MBOF has commercial purpose in captive breeding of animals whilst ASTI deals with the maintaining of captive animals for release. The purpose of this research were to compare the maintenance techniques applied by MBOF and ASTI and to describe the Eclectus Parrots daily behaviour. This research was done from May until July 2014. Data were collected through interviews and observation. Behavioral observation was carried out on a pair of Eclectus Parrots using focal animal sampling and one zero sampling methods. The result showed that there were differences in maintenance technique in MBOF and ASTI, i.e. caging techniques, food type variation, feeding preparation method, and handling of sick animals. Those differences were due to different management objectives. The behaviours that had been identified were ingestive behaviour, resting, locomotion, body treatment and sexual behaviour. Most of the daily activities of Eclectus Parrot at both locations consisted of resting (frequency and duration of more than 40%). | en |
