dc.description.abstractDog is the most common pet animal reared by humans. The problem that often found is the presence of ectoparasites such as ticks, fleas, mites, and louse. This study aim to determine the prevalence ectoparasite infestations in dogs at Pondok Pengayom Satwa Jakarta (PPSJ) from 2009 to 2013. The medical record data grouped based on sex, breed, and age. The result showed that there were 538 from 3 478 dogs that come at PPSJ infested by ectoparasites (15.47%). Types of ectoparasites recorded from 2012 to 2013 were ticks (41.96%), louse (23.94%), fleas (21.48%), and mites (12.63%). The infestation of ectoparasites found more in the male dog (16.55%) than the female dog (14.15%). In addition, pure breed dog (17.87%) had the highest prevalence of ectoparasites followed by mixed (13.27%), and local breed (12.43%). The dog which above 1 year old (17.21%) was more infested than the dog which 1 year old or less (13.59%). The result of Chi-square test (p<0.01) showed there were significant different between sex, breed, and age with the ectoparasites infestations in dogs.en
