Capsaicin is an active compound grouped in capsaicinoid in pepper plants. Capsaicin has many pharmacologic effect including cluster headcache therapy, postherpetic neuralgia, chronic pain, arthritis, diabeticneuropathic pain, and against a wide variety of tumor and cancer cells. The researcch was conducted to identify toxic effect of stomach and intestine that can be caused by capsaicin administered orally. Twelve mice straint C3H were divided into three groups: groups K1 (control), groups K2 (2 weeks treatment), and groups K3 (4 weeks treatment). Capsaicin was administered perorally for 2 weeks in K2 and 4 weeks in K3. The mice was necropsed, then the stomach and intestine were fixed in Buffer Neutral Formalin (BNF) for histopathological preparation. The results showed that capsaicin causes congestion, infiltration of inflammatory cell, and epithelium desquamation of the stomach and intestines. Based on these results, oral capsaicin is not safe for stomach and intestine.en
