Abstract

Plants are important elements in landscape design so that nurseryman are also required in landscape industry besides landscape architects, landscape contractors and landscape managers. This research was conducted in Bojongsari Baru village which is one of the business centers of ornamental plants, in July-December 2013. The purpose of this study was to study the procurement system of small-scale nurseries run by Bojongsari Baru citizens and to compose some strategies for ornamental plant business development. Research methods with observation and interviews of citizens then performed descriptive and quantitative analysis to get an overview of plant business conditions and SWOT analysis for business development strategy. The results of this study indicate cultivation, plant maintenance, and marketing is still done using conventional methods and simple tools due to the limited availability of agricultural land and capital, but citizens have a desire to develop this business. Several strategies recommended for nurserymen in Bojongsari Baru are careful production planning, optimization of land use, and more detailed financial records.
