This research was focused on identifying the problem of deforestation in several regencies of Jambi Province. Deforestation was analyzed and detected by using thematic change technique and multitemporal image analysis. The main objective of this research is to build a baseline model of deforestation, deforestation typology, as well as to identify the driving force of deforestation. The district typology was built by clustering method based on the nearest distance with Standardized Euclidean Distance formula. The results of this study indicate that the most significant driving forces of deforestation are population growth and plantation land such as oil palm and rubber plantation. The baseline model of deforestation for the district considered are LHDF = (1.5119 x 10283) Th-84.01391243 for estimating forest area at a certain year with deforestation (deforestation is considered) and LHTD = (5.2406 x 10277) Th-82.33622829 for estimating forest area at a certain year without deforestation (deforestation is considered absent or zero), and the rate of deforestation during the period of 1990-2000 and 2000-2011 are 29 926.14 ha per year and 23 081.22 ha per year, repectivelyen
