Conventionally, the role of forestry sector in the district of Sukabumi is indicated by its contribution to the Regional Gross Domestic Product (RGDP). However, gross value added that generated from timber industry was not taken into account. This value was included into manufacturing sector. This situation undermined the role of the forestry sector. The objectives of this study are to calculate the contribution of the forestry sector to the RGDP of Sukabumi and to determine policy alternative priority that improve forest sector contribution. The results showed the contribution of forestry sector in the period 2000 to 2011 ranged from 2.40% to 5.36%. This forestry sector is a major sector as indicated by Location Quotient value ranging from 1.05 to 1.44. The multiplier effect values varied from 41.23 to 43.05. The forestry sector was strong and had capability to realize opportunities. Therefore, the chosen strategy should support an aggressive growth policy. Expanding of collaborative and community forest management is the highest priority, followed by developing ecotourism, strengthening timber industry and rehabilitating critical land.en
