Abstract
Target size determination of the sortimen thick is a method conducted to avoid wastage of raw materials and to overcome the deficiencies of the target size on manufacturing furniture. The diversity of the timber thick will impact the quality control of sawing, by using X and R control charts or not to the process will be seen. It helps improve the sawmill owner to improve, remain or reduce some process so that the quality of the resulted product to be better. The objective of this research is to determine the accuracy of the target size used by craftsmen in wood processing, and as well as the accuracy of sortimen has been sawed and to analyze the quality control of a sawmill. Target size determined by craftsmen in Jepara was almost close to the scientifically target size, but the problems that arised were the advantages and disadvantages of the target size when timber was being sawed into sortimen. Analysis of quality control indicated by X and R control charts Jepara’s sawmill showed that most of the sawing process was not controlled, this is due to several factors such as human resources, machines and environmental conditions.
