      Abstract
Acerodon celebensis and Pteropus hypomelanus are the species of fruit bats that live in Gorontalo. They are potential as reservoir of infectious agents, such as Hendra virus, Nipah virus, and Menangle virus. The aims of this research were to study the histopathology of Gorontalo fruit bats liver and to examine the potency of Gorontalo fruit bats as host and reservoir of hepatitis-causing infectious agents. Hepatic tissues of the bats were stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) for histopathological examination, antibody polyclonal rabbit anti Coxiella burnetii FKH IPB for immunohistochemical examination, and Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) to detect glycogen and parasite. Histopathological examination showed that most hepatic tissues had granulomatous inflammation. The hepatic tissues stained with PAS found the presence of glycogen and fungi that suspected as Blastomyces dermatitidis. Immunohistochemical staining for Coxiella burnetii showed negative results.
