Studi abnormalitas gigi pada kuda delman di Kota Bogor

Abstract

Delman horse is one of the working animal that commonly used by the Bogor citizen as today tour transportation. Research on delman horse has not been done, including the dental health. The aim of this study is to identify and describe dental abnormalities on delman horses in Bogor city. This research was conducted in two stage, which are filled the questionnaires and interviewed with coachmen and also examined delman horse’s teeth. The results showed that horses have 100% bit sore, 80% sharp enamel points, and 30% mouth laceration. Incisors abnormalities were 20% overjet and 10% underjet. Canine abnormalities were 30% canines cutted and 10% canine periodontitis. Wolf teeth owned by 50% of examined horse. Cheek teeth abnormalities were 10% stepped mouth, 30% wave mouth, and 60% cupped out. Hooks formed 10% at the rostral cheek teeth, 30% caudal, and 30% rostrocaudal. Dental abnormalities in delman horses mostly considered as minor and closely related to the bit size, horse’s age, feed, others dental abnormalities, human manipulation, and genetic.
