      Abstract
Herpetofauna are vulnerable to habitat changes and deforestation because most of the herpetofauna need specific habitat type. The purpose of this research is to assess the relationship between size and distance from core areas to fragmented area to diversity of herpetofauna. Survey was carried out for 14 days (September - October 2012) using VES method (Visual Encounter Surveys) combined with patch sampling for specific microhabitat. A total of 36 species of herpetofauna (22 species of amphibian and 14 reptiles) was found, in which index Shannon-Wiener for amphibians (H’) in all types of habitats ranged from 1.39 to 2.57, which is mean low diversity. Diversity index of reptiles in all types of habitats ranged from 0.56 to 2.04, it means low to moderate diversity. Fragmented area, especially those with water source are mainly used as microhabitat and able to support herpetofauna life. There is a relation between size of fragments, distance fragments to core area and habitat characteristics to number of individuals and species of herpetofauna. Higher size of fragmented area has richer diversity of species and higher number of individuals. In summary, distance of fragmented areas to core areas affects the diversity of herpetofauna
