The objectives of this study is to understand the management of plant maintenance of tea plantation at PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII Gunung Mas and to propose an alternative pest control for tea looper (Hyposidra talaca) utilizing Hyposidra talaca Nucleopolyhedrovirus (HtNPV). The methods used were interviews, observation in the field, and the field efficacy test of HtNPV directly on tea plants. Tea plant maintenance activities include trimming, fertilizing, plucking, weed control, and pests-diseases management. Poor sanitary condition of tea plantation and the low human resources became limiting factors in the field. The most important pest at PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII Gunung Mas is tea looper (Hyposidra talaca) that feed on tea shoots and may reduce production to more than 40%. Alternative control measure for H. talaca using HtNPV can be carried out by spraying HtNPV suspension. Effective application of HtNPV was applied twice per week and were able to reduce the population of H. talaca to more than 50% within 7 days, and can reduce the population up to 100% within 11 days.en
