Study of Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Primate Quarantine Installation Personnels of BBKP Soekarno Hatta Related with Animal Welfare and Biosecurity

This study was conducted to analyze knowledges, attitudes and practices of installation personnels related to animal welfare and biosecurity to correlate knowledge, attitudes and practices of installation personnels to measure the level of animal welfare and biosecurity in animal quarantine installations. Data were collected from animal quarantine premises for exported primate (Macaca fasicularis). The level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of respondences measure by interviews and observation using the questionnaires and checklist. Data analyzed to determine associations between these variables using chi square and Gamma test. This research revealed that veterinarian knowledge correlated to their attitude with the level of correlation 0.694, and the care taker knowledge correlated to their attitude with the level of correlation 0.575. This study also noticed that the characteristics of respondents showed no correlation between animal welfare and biosecurity implementation, while the knowledge and attitude of veterinarians showed a strong correlation between animal welfare and biosecurity implementation with medium correlation level (r = 0.694). On the other hand the knowledge and attitude of care takers showed a strong correlation between the animal welfare and biosecurity with medium correlation level (r = 0.575). In conclusion most of the knowledge, attitude and practice of the veterinarians were verygood and knowledge, attitude and practice of the managers and care takers were good.
