Soybean seed viability declined rapidly due to the high protein content and high humidity of the tropical environment. Packaging techniques could be applied to maintain high viability of the soybean seeds. This research aimed to study the behavior of soybean seeds during storage with different packaging and soybean seeds varieties, and to develop model of soybean seed storage. The study was conducted in three stages : (1) soybean seed behaviour during storage, (2) development of seed storage model, and (3) simulation and verification of the model. The first stage consisted of two experiments: (1) soybean seed storage and testing with different types of packaging (aluminum foil, polypropilen plastic and sacks plastic), arranged in completely randomized design with five replications, and (2) seed storage and testing of four soybean varieties (Detam-1, Anjasmoro, Tanggamus and Wilis), arranged in completely randomized design with five replications. The results showed that the seed behaviour during storage period was affected by seed moisture content and environmental conditions, so that seed moisture content can be used as input model and seed storability vigor (VDSDB) and seed conductivity (VDSDHL) as model output. The models developed were: (1) model for estimating seed storability vigor based on seed viability equations (soyVios-1 model), and (2) dynamic model of seed storage for soybean (soyVios-2 model). The Seed Storability Vigor Prediction Model by using permeability of packaging and variety, moisture content, temperature and initial viability as model input could logically predict the seed storability vigor (VDS) and storage period. Simulation of Seed Storability Vigor Prediction Model with Microsoft Excell 2010 software and the same input model showed that soyVios-1 model could also predict logically the seed storability vigor (VDS) and storage period. Simulation of Soybean Seed Storage Dynamic Model by using the Model Construction Layer-Stella (MCLS) with permeability and surface area of packaging, relative humidity (RH), temperature, initial moisture content and initial viability as input model could predict logically the seed moisture content, seed storability vigor (VDSDB), seed conductivity (VDSDHL), and storage period.en
