Some researches on the management of community forestry have been done across continents with various themes. This study aims to measure the level of social capital in the management of forest gardens (dukuh), and analyze their effects on the dukuh performance. The research was conducted by using survey method. Two villages were purposively selected. Respondents were randomly selected from each villages with total number of 60 respondents. The results showed that the level of social capital in two communities in the management of dukuh is high, based on strongly held norms, values, beliefs, and rules. High social capital has facilitated the formation of the good dukuh performance, characterized by good levels of plant density, the value of high productivity, efficient use of resources, utilization of resources is fair, as well as the on going sustainable management of dukuh. This study concludes that social capital of Karang Intan community is still strong. Considering the high social capital in the community, the authors suggest the need for government support, especially through the enhancement of the role, the expansion of social networks, and strengthening the norms in force.
