The aim of this study was to know the causes of mortality in Sabah Sahiwal Friesien (SSF) calves and its impact towards the population development of SSF cattle. The main causes and their percentages observed at the Stasiun Pembiakan Ternakan Jabatan Perkhidmatan Haiwan dan Perusahaan Ternak (JPHPT) in Sebrang Keningau, Sabah, Malaysia was hairball (21,71%), lethargy (17,43%), cachexia (13,16%), bloat (9,87%), diarrhea (9,21%), dehydration (8,22%) and pneumonia (7,90%). The most significant causes of mortality revealed a serious problem with hygiene in stationary enclosures and feeding management. Mortality of juveniles decreases the slope of the replacement line, and causes changes in the slope of the stock. Replacement stock is cattle that are grown on farm to replaced oldes, less productive cows, and bulls. With better calf management in regard to hygiene, surveillance, and control of milk off-take, overall calf survival may be increased and the station’s production made more profitable.en
