Wood densification is a treatment that applicable to increase quality and wood properties, either through impregnation or compression. Until now, it was carried out comprehensively, but not partially, resulting in spring back and over density problems of densified wood. Therefore, using partial densification this study will evaluate and analysis the phenomenon occurred in cellular structure and chemical components of cell wall. Wood of Mangium and Agathis representing hardwood and softwood species, respectively, were used as the sample. Several temperature levels and heating durations were used in this experiment, while compression level was only one namely 20%. Impregnation with mixture monomer solution consists of styrene (ST) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) was performed with full- and empty cell methods. The result shows that partial densification of wood both compression and impregnation methods could resulted in the increasing of physical and mechanical properties of wood by changing its cellular structure and chemical components namely cellulose crystallinity, microfibril angle, lignin relocation as well as degradation of cellulose and hemicellulose. The result densification treated of wood showed generally good termite resistance.
