The effect of packaging, storage period and invigoration on viability and vigor of purwoceng (Pimpinella pruatjan Molk.) seed were studied through two experiments, (1) The effect of packaging and storage period on viability and vigor of seeds in ambient and Air Condition (AC) rooms, (2) The effect of invigoration on viability and vigor of seeds. The experiments were conducted at Gunung Putri Experimental Station Cipanas, Laboratory of Seed Science and Technology IPB, Physiology Laboratory of Indonesian Medical and Aromatic Crops Research Institute (IMACRI) Bogor, from April to December 2009. The first experiment was arranged in a Nested/Hierachical Design with 2 factors and 3 replications, where package material of paper, plastic and aluminium foil, as the main plots, and storage period of 0, 2,4, 6,8, and 10 weeks, as the sub-plots. The second experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design with single factor of invigoration including 11 treatments, i.e. Control, PEG 6000 (-0.2, -0.4, -0.6 and -0.8 MPa), KN03 (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3%) and GA3 (25, 50, 75 and 100 ppm). Results of the first experiment showed that plastic was the best package material for storing purwoceng seed up to 10 weeks in ambient and air condition (AC) rooms with 7.4% initial water content. In ambient room, seed vigor with seedling growth rate variable increased significantly starting from 4 weeks until 10 weeks, whereas in air condition (AC) room, viability of seed indicated by germination percentage and dry weight of normal seedling variables and seed vigor indicated by germination speed and vigor index variables, were increased starting from 2 or 4 weeks until 10 weeks. The second experiment showed that GA3 of 75 ppm and 100 ppm produced the highest speed of germination inicated that those were the best invigoration treatments for increasing seed vigor of purwoceng seed.en
