      Abstract

Direct utilization of natural zeolites can not be done because many contain a mixture of (impurities) that it needs treatment first, one to increase the usability of zeolite as an adsorbent is through an increase in its reactivity, which can be done by modifying the surface with a suitable chemical solvent. This study aims to determine the ability of phosporic acid-modified natural zeolite as an absorbent solution of Cd (II) by comparing two different types of zeolite origin. Analysis of samples is conducted by cation exchange capacity (CEC) test, surface area, and characteristics with XRD, SEM-EDS. Tests conducted on the second adsorption zeolite modified by varying the concentration of adsorbate, pH, weight of adsorbent, contact time, and temperature using a shaker speed 150 rpm which was analyzed by AAS. Adsorption of metal ions Cd (II) by two samples of zeolite followed Langmuir isotherm model and tend to follow the pseudo second-order kinetics, spontaneous, and exothermic.
