      Abstract

The total number of population changes in time because of fertility, mortality and migration. The behavior of the process can be explained by a mathematical model called diffusion with jumps. The aim of this research is to study the diffusion models with jumps that consider some non-proper events as factors of the change process. The models are applied to Indonesian population's data from 1961 to 2000. Estimation of the parameters is carried out by using maximum likelihood method. The results of analysis show that the diffusion model with jump that magnitudes have a uniform distribution fits the popUlation data quite well.
