dc.description.abstractMetan (C~) merupakan salah satu gas rumah kaca yang potensial menyebabkan pemanasan global selain karbondioksida (C02), chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), dan nitrous oks ida (N20). Konsentrasi C~ global di atmosfer paqa tahun 1993 adalah 1,7 ppm dengan laju peningkatan 1 % per tahun, sedangkan karbondioksida (C02) 345 ppm dan laju peningkatan-0,5% per tahun (Neue 1993). Kemampuan CH4 untuk meningkatkan suhu bumi sangat tinggi dengan potensi menyerap panas 21 kali lebih besar daripada gas karbondioksida (C02) (Lestari 2006). Sistem budidaya padi di lahan sawah merupakan salah satu sumber penyumbang gas CH4 di atmosfir. Laju emisi dari lahan sawah berkisar 20% dari total 43% emisi metan ke atmosfir dari lahan basah (Wild 1995; Bouwman & Sombroek 1990 dalam Notohadiprawiro 2006). Ekosistem dengan kondisi anaerob akibat penggenangan seperti pada lahan sawah dan lahan basah lainnya merupakan sumber utama emisi C~ (Neue 1993) penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh para ahli menunjukkan bahwa CH4 yang di produksi pada bagian anaerob sebagian dioksidasi pada permukaan sedimen sawah.en
dc.description.abstractMethane-oxidizing bacteria (methanotrophs) have ability to oxidize methane to carbon dioxide via methanol, formaldehyde, and format in aerobic condition. Methanotrophic bacteria are normally abundant where methane is present. In aerobic environment, methanotrophic bacteria oxidize methane to provide carbon and energy for their growth. Methanotrophic bacteria have an unique enzyme known as methane mono oxygenase (MMO) catalizing reaction of CH4 and O2 to methanol. Three selected isolates from rice fields in Bogor and Sukabumi were tested the growth and methane oxidation activity under different concentration of oxygen (02) using Nitrat Medium Salts (NMS) medium. Methane oxidation rate ofBGM 9 isolate at 0%,10%, 20% and 50% air saturation was 129182.06 mol/day, 138185.16 mol/day, 137484.32 mol/day, 167015,88 mol/day respectively. In contl:ast, high rates of Methane oxidation were performed by BGM 2 and SKM 14 isolates at air saturation of 10% and 20%. However the activity was decreased at 50% air saturation.
