Kinerja Protokol Routing dalam Komunikasi Real-time pada Jaringan Berkabel
Abstract
To reach its destination, different routing protocols are used by routers to determine the path for real time data (voice and video) communications. Each protocol has its own method of doing the routing. This research evaluates the performance of three routing protocols, namely RIPv2, EIGRP, and OSPF, based on two parameters: packet loss and router re-convergence time. Test was conducted by using actual devices, i.e., one CISCO 1841 router and eight CISCO 2620XM routers with a small topology. Video file that is used has a duration of 119.25 seconds with video format MPEG-4 and total bit-rate 87.6 Kbps. To obtain the value of packet loss and router re-convergence time, when the stream running about 1 minute, the network will be impaired by turning off one of the router. The analysis was done by looking at the number of packets captured by sniffer and the log of the router. The result shows that protocol EIGRP has the best performance compared with RIPv2 and OSPF with average time 0.148 second to re-convergence and 40 loss packets.
