      Abstract
      Odor that came from animal excrete in animal laboratory maintenance can cause health problem on human and animal. Odor can be reducted with using of oral deodorant. The aim of this research was to study the effect of kepel (Stelechocarpus burahol) leaf extract on ammount of ammonia, trimethylamine, and phenol in mice faeces. The exctract dose was 2,6 mg/g body weight and it was given orally for seven days. Ammount of ammonia, trimethylamine, and phenol were measured in day before treatment, after third day treatment, and after seventh day treatment. Ammount of ammonia and trimethylamine were measured by titration method, while the ammount of phenol was measured using spectrophotometry. All data were analyzed using T-test method. The result indicated that kepel leaf extract tended to reduce ammount of phenol in faeces after seven day,but it had no significant effect for ammount of ammonia and trimethylamine.
       
      Bau yang berasal dari ekskreta hewan dalam pemeliharaan hewan coba dapat menimbulkan masalah kesehatan bagi manusia maupun hewan coba. Bau tersebut dapat dikurangi dengan penggunaan deodoran oral. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek ekstrak daun kepel (Stelechocarpus burahol) terhadap kadar amonia, trimetilamin, dan fenol dalam feses mencit. Mencit diberi ekstrak daun kepel dengan dosis 2,6 mg/g BB per oral selama tujuh hari. Kadar amonia, trimetilamin, dan fenol dalam feses mencit diperiksa pada hari sebelum pencekokan, setelah pencekokan hari ketiga, dan setelah pencekokan hari ketujuh. Kadar amonia dan trimetilamin diukur dengan metode titrasi, sedangkan kadar fenol diukur dengan metode spektrofotometri. Data yang didapat dianalisis menggunakan uji T-student. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kadar fenol dalam feses mencit menurun secara signifikan setelah tujuh hari, sedangkan kadar amonia dan trimetilamin tidak mengalami penurunan yang signifikan.
