      Abstract
Research on amphibian species diversity was conducted from July-August 2010 on Forest Protected Area of Lesan River, Berau regency, East Borneo. Data was collected at three observation plots which are: Lejak watercourse, Lejak River and Lesan River. The method used is Visual Encounter Survey (Ves). The data captured include the type, number of individuals of each species amphibi, the size of the snout-vent length of body length from snout to the cloaca, gender, current time whenspecies was found, the behavior and position of animals in their habitat environment. Based on the observations, found 31 species of amphibians from five families of Bufonidae (5 types), Megophryidae (4 species), Microhylidae (3 types), Ranidae (11 species), and Rhacophoridae (8 types). Of the total 217 individuals were found to consist of 31 species, family Ranidae has the greatest number of all individual which were found (75.11%) and the number of individuals who at least found is the family Microhylidae (1.38%). Shannon diversity index (H ') in aquatic habitats (1.77) higher compared with H’ terrestrial (1.29). This is because the number of species and individuals found in aquatic habitats is relatively higher than in terrestrial habitats. Evenness (E) in aquatic habitats (0.86) higher compared with E terrestrial (0.69). The results suggest that protected areas Lesan River still support the diversity amphibians, especially plot observations Lejak river that has a fairly high diversity. Therefore, protected areas should receive attention Lesan River area managers so that protection is very important because the area of protected areas Lesan River has a number of types and levels of diversity is quite high.
